Book One - Cover (Colored)

Well, here it is. Obviously, there's still a few little things that aren't finished about it. It'll probably be in a constant state of revision, and I'll update the image as I make the changes. But I think the majority of the work is done. I also worked a bit on a more painterly version, but I finally decided that this style fits the linework better I think.

Wow, I'd forgotten how long it takes to color these things. Hope I can have the stamina to color the interior as well! Otherwise, the plan will be to do grayscale for the rest of it. I really hope I can figure out a faster way to do color though. It's gotta be in color to do the story justice.

Again, I was going for sort of a "Star Wars movie poster" look with this. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out!

It's coming along nicely!
Do you color it by hand or on the computer?

Thanks guys! Glad you like it. Now I just need to draw, ink and color 180 pages to go along with it...no problem ;) I colored it in Photoshop. I don't think I could color something like this by hand and do it any justice.

Brian-

I would through in a focus color, something to throw it all of a bit. The single hue look for me is robbing the energy and the life this cover could have. I like the overall feel of it, but I guess I see a more colorful version in my head. Just my opinion on that one.

But I would def through your dragon symbol behind the Myth title. Where you have it now it just gets lost in the page. So, maybe find a way to make it more prominent.

Just my thoughts, but its coming along. This stage is always the hardest.

Yeah it's a pain. The dragon symbol is the number one thing that I know I need to fix. I just threw it on there to get a feel for what it's all gonna look like. Looks horrible right now though. Thanks for the advice with the colors though. I haven't done a whole lot with color, so I'm really still figuring it out as I go along. I'll try adding a focus color!

Actually, I thought the Logo was sticking out, rather than disappearing. I almost commented on it, but didn't have any constructive comments on the subject.

Nice! I like the muted colors, but at the same time it doesn't seem quite finished, like you say.

I hope this doesn't bother you, but I love how Grey Wolf looks so sad and lovable! I want to hug him!

Just as a side note. I love to color or do anything in photoshop, even tedious things. Maybe, if you want, I could be your ghost colorer . . . like how some authors have ghost writers, ya know?

Just a thought . . . That way you could have the final say and stuff but I could help you get the bulk of coloring done for your interior pages or something.

Well, I tried adding a focus color and making parts of it more saturated...along with a lot of other things. Messed with the logo too.

Julie-

Nah, that's cool that you find Grey Wolf kinda lovable. I was really trying to give him more appeal in his current design, so that's the response I think I was going for. He can be quite ferocious as well. But his natural disposition is a loyal dog that just wants to obey his master.

As for coloring, I'm definitely looking for people who could help color this thing. However, I'm reluctant to as well, because I know how much work it is. The biggest task is "flatting" pages for color. That's where you fill in the base colors.

I'd love to get to the point where I have a person or people coloring for me. Coloring is the one part of the process I don't feel I need to be a control freak about.
